About the Event
We are excited to have SJ Dahlstrom and Cliff Wilke join us for an insightful look at how author and illustrator work together to create an award-winning series.
S. J. Dahlstrom lives and writes in West Texas with his wife and children. A fifth-generation Texan, his series The Adventures of Wilder Good has won the Will Rogers Gold Medallion three times and been nominated three times for a Lamplighter Award. His fourth book, The Green Colt, won the Wrangler Award from the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum and was a Spur Finalist from the Western Writers of America. His sixth book, Silverbelly, was released January 2020. www.wildergood.com
Dahlstrom also teaches creative writing and literature in Lubbock. In his writing and teaching he draws on his experiences as a husband, father, cowboy—and as a founder of Whetstone Boys Ranch. He says, “We should not forget that we have real adventure to offer kids, if we can have the courage to turn off their machines and screens and take them outside. The strenuous life in the West, that is…our western heritage, is still wild, and it does not require zombies, vampires, wizards or wimps.”
Cliff Wilke is the illustrator of the Wilder Good series. He is from Abeline, Texas. There he pursues his art and teaches art to at-risk teenage boys.
